Katy Psenicka

Katy Psenicka was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She began ballet and gymnastics at age 3,  and was creating full length liturgical shows by grade school.  In high school, she “evolved” as a creator, working up drill team and musical theater chorus routines. Katy attended The University of Dayton, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Management while immersing herself in the University’s contemporary dance ensemble, musical theater and dance team programs as a performer and student choreographer.

Psenicka joined the Shadowbox Live ensemble in 1994. She has made choreography a primary focus of her professional career, cultivating over 600 character-driven performing art pieces that tell stories through the medium of contemporary dance.  Psenicka is also a versatile performer who has been featured in dozens of lead and supporting roles.

Psenicka’s most recent bodies of work include the conceptualization and choreography of critically acclaimed and awarded original dance theater productions Vampires, Evo, *Madness and Lust, *Broken Whispers, Desire, No Return: The Deadly Dance of Bonnie and Clyde, Sleepy Hollow: An American Ghost Story, and the choreography for multimedia performance art productions Gallery of Echoes CMA and Public Art, Evolutionaries, The Dream, Which One’s Pink, Leather and Lace, Thunder and Lightning
